Israel’s leading plane manufacturer has delivered its 100th training jet wing to the United States Air Force.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) says that this demonstrates its long-term relationship with the US Air Force.
The supersonic T-38 is critical to the US Air Force’s pilot training program. IAI says it has orders for hundreds of additional wings, and will continue to meet the demand for the program.
The T-38 was originally developed by the Northrop Grumman Corporation, An American defense company, in 1961. Since then, more than 75,000 US Air Force pilots have used it in training.
Shmuel Kuzi, Executive Vice President of IAI, said: “IAI is honored and proud to provide the US Air Force with T-38 wings. This program demonstrates that IAI is a world leader for aerostructures and wing production.
“We look forward to further expanding the close relationship between the US Air Force and IAI for further, exciting future opportunities”.
Director of the US Defense Contract Management Agency, Lieutenant General David Bassett, said: “For over 60 years the T-38 has been absolutely critical to the training and readiness of the United States Air Force.
“Production of sustaining parts in Israel is essential to keep the aircraft flying safely for years to come. On behalf of all the professionals in the DCMA, congratulations on this important milestone delivery.”
