The Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality announced the launch its new app, Tel Aviv-Jaffa Beaches, this week, making the city’s 13 coastal beaches more accessible and convenient for tourists and local residents.
The app was created by DigiTel, a membership card for residents that offers discounts and promotions on services, facilities, and events in the city.
It will offer information on beach conditions including wave height and temperature of the water and air.
DigiTel members can connect to the application and receive a 66 percent discount on the purchase of two pieces of beach furniture, like a sun bed, beach chair, or parasol.
Typically, beachgoers need to visit rental machines located on the beachfront to purchase beach equipment, but a user that has downloaded the app can use it to purchase up to 15 pieces of beach equipment (five of each type) directly from his or her smartphone. The user cannot use his or her Digital membership to purchase their beach gear.
The app can be operated in English or Hebrew and will soon be available in Arabic.
As part of a campaign to promote the app, the municipality has sent out a pink-and-white ice cream cart, dubbed AutoGela, along the beaches of the city to offer cones to beachgoers until the end of the month.
