The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation “Kan” (“here” in Hebrew) is recruiting some 500 unpaid volunteers for the Eurovision Song Contest set to take place May 14-18, as thousands of international guests and tourists will make their way to Tel Aviv for the finale and the surrounding events.
Kan said it was looking for a “band of charming, sociable and smart volunteers [to]… help to make Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv unforgettable.”
The volunteers will fill a number of rules including as production assistants, production runners, stage assistants, journalist ushers, guides, among others, Kan said in a statement.
Head of Communications for Eurovision 2019 Sharon Ben-David said the recruitment call was “a tremendous opportunity to be part of the production of the largest event Israel has ever seen,” and that “volunteers will remember this experience their entire lives.”
The city of Tel Aviv also launched a call for volunteers to provide a warm welcome to tourists, and give them guidance and information on the city and its offerings.
“All the polls we do show that one of our greatest assets is that we’re friendly, warm and welcoming,” said Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai according to the Jerusalem Post. “This is the asset we want to leverage to give the thousands of tourists who will fill up this city the best possible Eurovision experience.”
The city, already a popular world destination, expects some 20,000 visitors during the competition, including delegations from the 42 countries participating in the Eurovision.
The Eurovision’s two semi-finals and the finale will be held at the Tel Aviv International Convention Center (also known as the EXPO). There will also be an opening ceremony and red carpet event at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and what the city is calling the world’s largest Eurovision Village overlooking the Mediterranean Sea at Charles Clore Park.
Tel Aviv has been gearing up for the event with some creative accommodation plans.
