Short Film ‘Skin’ By Israeli Director Guy Nattiv Nominated For Oscar

Israeli director Guy Nattiv’s short film ‘Skin’ has been nominated for an Academy Award for best live action short film. The Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The film explores the story of a skinhead in the United States who ends up rejecting racial hatred. The story begins “with a small supermarket in a blue-collar town and a black man smiling at a 10-year-old white boy across the checkout aisle. This moment sends two hate-filled gangs into a ruthless war that ends with a shocking backlash.”

The 20-minute film has been developed into a full-length movie also directed by Nattiv, which explores the reality of white supremacy in the US, and goes by the same name, the Times of Israel reported.

Nattiv, who grew up in Israel and now lives in Los Angeles, wrote ‘Skin’ with fellow Israeli Sharon Maymon. His wife, actress Jaime Ray Newman, produced the film.

Other nominees for the best live action short film category are “Detainment” by Vincent Lambe, “Fauve” by Jeremy Comte, “Marguerite” by Marianne Farley and “Mother” by Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

The Oscars will be held in Hollywood on February 24 (February 25 at 3 a.m. in Israel).
