October 12, 2014 | The Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation was awarded to a Swiss and an American scientist. Prof. Thomas Meyer of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Prof. Michael Grätzel of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. Meyer and Grätzel were awarded the annual grant-giving prize for their research into developing cheap and efficient processes based on alternative energies that will power the vehicles and transportation of the future.
