It’s official: “Apple Acquires PrimeSense For $345M”

It has just been confirmed that Apple has acquired Israeli startup PrimeSense for $345 million.
PrimeSense is the motion-tracking company responsible for the technology in the original Xbox 360 Kinect. Rumors of the possible purchase, first reported last Sunday by Israeli news site Calcalist, began back in mid-July, although the price tag was then said to be some $60M less than the amount currently reported. The exit is a coup for the company that seemed to be headed straight for the wall only a year and a half ago. At the time, the Israeli startup’s sponsor Microsoft announced that it would not be renewing its contract with PrimeSense.
