Two scientists, one Israeli and one Palestinian, have recently started a close cooperation to address the growing regional problem of water shortage.

The scientists, Dr. Moshe Herzberg from Ben-Gurion University and Prof. Mohammed Saleem Ali-Shtayeh, from the Biodiversity and Environmental Research Center (BERC) in the West Bank city of Nablus, have been awarded a Mid East Regional Cooperation (MERC) grant of $650,000 for a joint water purification project that will address clean water issues and attempt to increase the clean water supply in the region.

Herzberg told one Israeli news website the research will address the problem of  bacteria that grow in the slimy top layer of secondary wasterwater.
